Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for screening and conveying operations
   • Access, interpret and apply screening and conveying documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Inspect and prepare work area in coordination with others
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Operate the screening plant
   • Coordinate activities with others prior to commencing and during work activities
   • Carry out pre-start, start-up and shutdown procedures
   • Prepare plant for operation in accordance with work requirements
   • Select and modify the operating technique to meet changing work conditions
   • Conduct, control and monitor operations within the equipment limitations, maintaining screening efficiency and effectiveness
   • Act on or report monitoring systems and alarms
   • Complete the work plan
3. Carry out post-operational procedures
   • Inspect, fault find and report verbally or in writing
   • Carry out operational maintenance, servicing, lubricating and housekeeping tasks
   • Maintain, process and pass on written records and reports

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and relevant applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of screening and conveying operations including:

conducting prestart checks and shut-down operations

applying diagnostic techniques

selecting and using relevant tools

working wearing personal protective equipment

hazardous goods handling and management

conducting operational maintenance

working in confine space

using alarm/monitoring and control systems

works effectively with others to undertake and complete screening and conveying operations that meet all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

clarifying work requirements and instructions

inspecting and preparing work area and equipment

demonstrates completion of conducting screening and conveying operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing work plan

completing post operational procedures

carry out pre-start, start up and shutdown procedures

conduct screening operations, control and monitor operations and adjust to changing conditions
